Base Area Supervisor: This Base Area Supervisor position ensures the proper, efficient and profitable functioning of the day-to-day operations of the resort's base area, including food and beverage, lodging (which includes housekeeping, maintenance and reservations) and retail departments. The Base Area Supervisor provides hands-on leadership while executing long and short range strategies and plans as directed by the executive management team. This individual directs and coordinates effective and efficient operations within corporate guidelines to maximize sustainable profitability and customer satisfaction. The Base Area Supervisor will be dedicated to delivering superb customer experiences, identifying improved ways to work together in a team environment, and effectively implementing profitable growth strategies. Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Operations on Sipapu's executive management.

Located 20 miles southeast of Taos, Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort is New Mexico's fastest growing ski area. Founded over 60 years ago, Sipapu is known for its commitment to delivering affordable, family-friendly year-round adventures, and the resort is well positioned for significant growth. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring strategic goals and objectives as directed by the Executive Team.
  • Responsible for the proper, efficient and profitable functioning of the day-to-day operations of the Resort's base area, including but not exclusive to the following departments: food and beverage, lodging (which includes housekeeping, maintenance, and reservations), and retail.
  • Administers the financial budget. Proactively controls costs and positively impacts the bottom line.
  • Manages all department financial objectives adn works with all departments to achieve organization objectives.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Resort's assets and quality standards, as well as guest satisfaction guidelines.
  • Develops and maintains a high level of employee trust and loyalty within all levels of the organization. The Base Area Supervisor treats all employees with dignity and respect, and creates an environment where the entire team does the same. 
  • Ensures a quality product and positive customer service experience. The Base Area Supervisor responds positively and quickly to customer concerns and initiates corrective action through good communication and/or improved processes/procedures to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains an environment where all employees are trained and empowered to deliver total customer satisfaction. Defines and implements processes whereby each employee's ability to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction is effectgively evaluated and managed. 
  • Participates in marketing strategy development and ensures the success of all marketing programs. 
  • Establishes and maintains procedures relating to asset management in the area of inventory control and daily revenue processing.
  • Leads employee engagement and development efforts, ensuring that employees are valued, safe and feel empowered to serve their customers.
  • Responsible for hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, coaching, training, disciplinary action, etc. The Base Area Supervisor holds the department managers accountable for their department's performance.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • BA/BS Degree in hospitality, business or related field
  • 5 or more years business management experience
  • Previous experience demonstrating exceptional leadership and management abilities including recruiting, rewarding and retaining employees and implementing strategic directives
  • Strong oral and written communications skills including the ability to communicate effectively, concisely and professionally with senior management, clients and other key stakeholders
  • Excellent customer service orientation
  • Problem-solving and conflict management
  • Ability to delegate work


  • 5 or more years in a ski resort management position - restaurant experience is a strong plus
  • Organized with excellent time and project management skills
  • Strategic - including strategic forecasting, planning, implementation and business case development
